Michael Lysaght
A dynamic thinker, innovator, and teacher, Michael Lysaght is Professor of Medical Science and Engineering and Director of the Center for Biomedical Engineering at Brown University. Before entering academia, he pursued a long and successful career in industry, in leadership roles at Baxter International, Cytotherapeutics, and other firms. A pioneer and thought leader in the fields of artificial organs and cellular medicine, Michael regularly consults with colleagues worldwide as a researcher and futurist.
Michael is president-elect of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO.) He resides in Rhode Island, where he served as the founding Director of the Rhode Island Center for Cellular Medicine (RICCM) – the precursor to what is now the Slater Fund’s biomedical technology investment group – a capacity in which he helped to launch more than a dozen Rhode Island-based startup companies
